Tape That – Tilted Room Making Of

Tape That – Tilted Room Making Of

At the Illuseum, an illusion museum in Berlin, we created a walkable artwork in a tilted room – just using adhesive tapes and foils. „In the Tilted Room, not only the floor, but also the whole room is tilted. The black and white grid of Tape That follows exactly the geometry of the room and thus clearly reinforces the illusion. The mirrors on the front sides extend the installation to infinity. In addition, Tape That makes use of another illusion – the Hermann Grid. At the crossing points of the lines the illusion of grey areas or dots is created that disappear when we focus on one point.“ Visit https://www.tapethatcollective.com to learn more about our art. Tape Art Around the World: USA

Tape Art Around the World – USA 2019 In may 2019 we had the chance to come to the United States of America, showing and teaching the art of taping in New York City and Washington D.C. In addition to workshops at two German schools and a public high school we had the chance to performe live at the open house of the German Embassy in Washington D.C. and at a block party in Brooklyn, NYC. We met a lot of inspiring personalities and enjoyed bringing tape art closer to the people! We are looking forward to come back! THANK YOU to: German Embassy in Washington, D.C. Tape Art Around the World: Cuba

We started the new year with a „Tape Art Around The World“ Project in Cuba – in cooperation with the German Embassy in Havana and the Fábrica de Arte Cubana. At the Fábrica we taped three containers of the facade with a combination of a woven „TapeThat“ typographic style and colourful abstract 3D line-art. Inside the Fábrica we created cracking walls revealing colourful areas with different styles of Tape Art. At the german embassy in Havana we created an artwork as a homage to Alexander von Humboldt in a combination of a bust-style portrait and an abstract floral background in memory of his researches in nature. At the residency of the german ambassador we created an abstract artwork made out of vertical lines playing with perspective and illusion.

Tape That at MT Masking Tape Factory Tour Vol. 7 | JAPAN

After a long Trip and our arrival in Osaka we went to the hometown of MT Masking Tapes, Kurashiki in Japan. It was the first time we got some cool washi tape in our hands, which was manufactured only for this project and cut in our prefered sizes – Big!. It was also the first time that the tradition based family business invited external artists to create an artwork. The first installation is called “Matter Of Perspective”. As we usually work in bigger rooms, we simply extended the dimensions of this little shack only by geometric shapes. The geometric landscape aligns perfectly with a vanishing point which we simulated to be far behind the outer wall of the shack. The inner walls, windows and corrugated metal roofs distort the shapes again, so the real artwork can only be seen by taking a photo from a marked spot in the room. The second part of the project is a good old mural on one of the old factory walls. However with a size of 15 x 7m it’s one of the largest we’ve created so far in a very limited time frame … with a lot of rain … outside. Yes it was fun! The picture is our modern version of a traditional japanese geisha, a women educated in all sorts of fine arts usually engaged in the high society to entertain. Here our geisha is a trained in tape artist designing her own Kimono right on the spot. Thanks to everyone who supported us with this project. Check out the article to the project on the website of MT Masking Tapes: http://www.mt-maskingtape.com/main/pages/index/p/6/259

Carbon Tape Art | Audi | by Tape That

In june 2018 we designed an artwork for Audi. Inspired by the overlapping carbon-structure we created an artwork as a surrounding for a photoshooting-set. To create a third dimesion we used a new technique and stretched rubber bands through the air. We combined the parallel rubber band pattern with a tape-hatching on the wall and floor. It was a pleasure to work with Thomas Motta and his team. Together we created a beautiful mix between urban art and car-photography.
